Necrotic herpes zoster
Abstract
Herpes zoster is a viral infection caused by the varicela zoster virus. It is
characterized by vesicles which are grouped on an erythematous base, forming
plaques, initially separated by spaces of healthy, unilateral skin, which rope the
path of a nerve. The case of a 92-year-old female patient is presented, who is
admitted to the Medicine service of the Hospital Clínico Quirúrgico Docente
Miguel Enríquez, with a diagnosis of ophthalmic herpes zoster. After admission
she presented a torpid evolution, with necrosis of the lesions asymptomatic. The
patient was treated with systemic antibiotics, antivirals, antineuritics and topical
treatment, with favorable evolution. At discharge, follow-up by internal medicine
consultation was indicated. The case is presented due to the rarity of this clinical
form of herpes zoster, which for some authors is considered a complication and
where we must look for the possibility of an associated systemic disease in the
patient.
