Abstract

Lichen planus is a dermatosis of an unknown origin which has been associated to genetic and immune factors. It is characterized by purple polygonal pruritic papules. Lichen planus pigmentosus is one of its variants. A case is presented of a white female 48-year-old patient who attended consultation with skin lesions of two months' evolution consisting in hyperpigmented macules in her armpits and groins. The staff meeting at the Dermatology service provided a preliminary diagnosis of lichen planus pigmentosus, which was confirmed by the histopathological study. The case is presented because despite the fact that this condition is not infrequent in our environment, diagnostic errors are sometimes made.
