Bone Resorption of a Patient with a Diagnosis of Leprosy

Abstract

The disabilities caused by leprosy affect mainly the peripheral nervous system in its most distal branches. Anesthetic disorders, motor paralysis and trophic disorders cause a number of clinical manifestations and disabilities in the eyes, hands and feet. The case is presented of a 55-year-old male patient diagnosed with lepromatous leprosy, with multiple ulcerated lesions at the level of his legs and arms, of variable sizes, with bone resorption of hands and feet as a complication. The patient presented clinical improvement of the lesions after pharmacological treatment. The importance of this case lies in the fact that, although leprosy can be cured, the late diagnosis of the disease can cause serious disabilities, which could be prevented with adequate control and follow-up of patients and multidisciplinary management.
