Cuban scientific activity on dermatology published in Scopus

Abstract

Introduction: Scientific development in the field of medical sciences is key to the quality of healthcare. Dermatology focuses its study and assistance on conditions that affect the skin; in its anatomical and functional integrity.

Objective: To describe the Cuban scientific activity on dermatology published in Scopus.

Methods: An observational, descriptive, retrospective, bibliometric study was developed. The universe was made up of 62 articles. Variables analyzed were number of articles, year of publication, theme and topics investigated, most productive institutions, journals and authors, number of citations received and most cited articles. Descriptive statistics and bibliometric indicators were applied.

Results: The years 2014, 2015, 2017 and 2020 stood out with 8 investigations published in each (12.90%). A total of 408 citations were received; with the highest representation in 2014 (125; 30.63%). The research regarding Syphilis stood out; Chlamydia Trachomatis; infection. The main focus of research covered topics related to the area of medical sciences. I highlight Pedro Kouri Institute of Tropical Medicine with 14 investigations (22.58%). Articles with international collaboration (32; 51.6%) and investigations located in Q4 (27; 43.54%) stood out.

Conclusions: Cuban scientific production in dermatology was variable, with high scientific significance and visibility. Areas within the medical sciences were covered, with close relationships with other specialties and a multicenter and international approach. In turn, the main results were located in high-reach journals with high levels of citation per year.
