Keywords:
VIH; SIDA; SIRI; sarcoma de KaposiAbstract
Introduction: The epidemic form of Kaposi's sarcoma associated with HIV/AIDS is the most frequent neoplasia in HIV-infected patients, which represents an important social problem as it is visible lesions. Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome has become a major complication after the initiation of antiretroviral therapy associated with considerable morbidity and mortality of affected individuals.
Objective: To characterize the Tumor Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome associated with Kaposi's Sarcoma in AIDS.
Methods: A narrative bibliographic review was carried out, which included various texts, articles and digital materials related to Immune Reconstitution Inflammatory Syndrome, Kaposi's sarcoma and AIDS. The SciELO, Lilacs, Pubmed and Scopus databases and directories were consulted using the keywords in Spanish and Boolean operators. The search result showed a total of 18 articles, 8 articles were excluded because they were not relevant to the research objectives, for a total of 10 articles referenced in this study.
Results: NSAIDs and corticosteroids may provide the only alternative available to date to treat IRIS associated with various pathologies, however, it is important to distinguish those cases that could cause health impairment with the use of corticosteroids. Conclusions: Appropriate management of IRIS first requires recognition of the condition, which occurs with clinical parameters that reflect a worsening of the opportunistic infection or significant systemic inflammation secondary to the initiation of ART.
