Abstract

Squamous cell carcinoma of the skin is a malignant neoplasm of epidermal keratinocytes. It is the second most common malignant skin tumour and affects people over 60 years of age. It predominates in photoexposed areas, especially in the upper half of the trunk. Clinically, it is characterized by nodular or ulcerative lesions. The giant cutaneous form is extremely rare and frequently produces distant metastases. We show a 71-year-old patient with an extensive, fleshy tumor lesion on the palm of the left hand, with a pathological diagnosis of well-differentiated and infiltrating squamous cell carcinoma. Giant squamous cell carcinoma represents a skin tumor that is aggressive to life. The case is presented because of its interest, and to reinforce the importance of timely diagnosis of this type of tumor.
