Abstract

Norwegian scabies, the clinical form of scabies, is a rare and highly contagious zooparasitic disease. It is a parasitic disease caused by Sarcoptes scabiei variety hominis. It is so named because it was first described in Norway by Danielsenn and Boeck in patients with lepromatous leprosy in 1848. It is caused by a massive infestation of skin parasites in people with inadequate hygiene habits, immunosuppressed, cachectic and impoverished people, as well as in mentally ill people, so the environment is considered to be a primary factor. A 62-year-old male patient was admitted to 10 de octubre Clinical Surgical Teaching Hospital with a diagnosis of Norwegian scabies. Due to the after-effects of his underlying disease (multiple myeloma), he was paraplegic and hygiene measures were not adequate. Because of the rarity of this disease, the presentation of this case is of great interest.
