Abstract

Introduction: The World Health Organization estimates that around 1.3 to 2 million pregnant women in the world have reactive serology, despite existing public health policies.

Objective: To characterize pregnant women with reactive serology from a clinical and epidemiological point of view.

Methods: An observational, descriptive, cross-sectional case series study was carried out in pregnant women with reactive serology, treated in the Dermatology service of the Carlos Manuel de Céspedes General Provincial Hospital in Bayamo, Granma, in the period from January 2020 to December 2022. 109 pregnant women admitted during the study period were included in the sample.

Results: In pregnant women with reactive serology, ages between 25 and 29 years, urban origin and consensual union as marital status predominated. The obstetric history found most frequently was primiparous patient, initiation of sexual relations before 18 years of age and having had one or two sexual partners. The behavioral history highlighted irregular condom use. The majority of cases were in the third trimester of pregnancy and false biological reactivity of pregnancy as a diagnostic conclusion was common.

Conclusions: It is important that the dermatologist evaluates each pregnant woman throughout her follow-up until the moment of delivery and uses the tests she needs to do so. Depending on your assessment, you must proceed with appropriate conduct, as established in the National Strategic Plan.
