Vitiligo and psoriasis in a child, is a frequent association
Abstract
Different studies show that the incidence of psoriasis in patients with vitiligo is
not higher than in the general population. When they are associated, the
appearance of vitiligo usually precedes psoriatic lesions, which extend equally
over normal skin and skin affected by vitiligo. The case of a 15-year-old male
patient is presented, with a diagnosis of segmental vitiligo since he was 9 years
old, who 10 days before going to the dermatology consultation begins with
erythematous, scaly and pruritic skin lesions. A biopsy is performed and
diagnosis of psoriasis is confirmed. The patient required treatment with
methotrexate due to generalization of the lesions and phototherapy, with
favorable evolution. The case is presented because of the rarity of these
addictions in our environment and its interesting nature.
