Use of probiotics and prebiotics in Dermatology
Abstract
Introduction: The skin microbiota plays a crucial role in the health and well-being
of the skin, influencing its barrier function. In recent years, there has been
growing interest in the use of probiotics and prebiotics to modulate this
microbiota and improve skin function.
Objective: To review the current evidence on the use of probiotics and prebiotics
in the prevention and treatment of various skin conditions.
Methods: A review of the literature available in SciELO, PubMed Central, Medline,
UpToDate, was performed, relevant search terms were used, such as probiotics,
prebiotics, skin microbiota, dermatological treatment, among others.
Conclusions: The use of probiotics and prebiotics in dermatology represents a
promising strategy for the treatment and prevention of various skin conditions.
