Update on Diagnosis and Management of Common Dermatological Pathologies in Primary Care

Abstract

Introduction: Dermatology in primary care is essential for the early identification and treatment of skin diseases such as acne, eczema, and psoriasis. These conditions significantly affect patients' quality of life, and their early detection prevents severe complications.

Objective: To update the diagnosis and management of common dermatologic diseases in primary care.

Methods: A bibliographic review was carried out from August to October 2024. Original articles, case reports, and open-access systematic reviews were consulted in peer-reviewed academic publications from the databases SciELO, Regmed, Dialnet, MayoClinic, and MedlinePlus. AND and OR were used as Boolean operators.

Development: Among the most common skin diseases in primary care are acne, atopic dermatitis, and psoriasis. These diseases are diagnosed clinically, and management includes topical and systemic treatments. In all of these conditions, patient education about skin care and the emotional impact of these diseases is essential.

Conclusions: The management of dermatologic pathologies in primary care is crucial to ensure comprehensive and proactive care. Constantly updating clinical guidelines for healthcare professionals is essential to improve patient outcomes.
