Skin Lesions in Patients with Endocrine Diseases

Abstract

Introduction: The skin has endocrine and metabolic functions; therefore, endocrine diseases can lead to changes in skin function and morphology.

Objective: To determine the frequency of skin lesions in patients with endocrine diseases.

Methods: A descriptive and cross-sectional study was carried out. The universe was made up of 156 adults with endocrine diseases. Anamnesis was performed, as well as skin and general physical examination. Calculations were made using global descriptive statistics and according to present diseases.

Results: Dermatologic alterations were detected in 100 % of the patients. The mean age was 52.41 years and 69.35 % were female, with a predominance of overweight and skin phototype III patients. Diabetes mellitus was the most frequent endocrine disease; and, within dermatological ones, adnexal disorders predominated in 67.74 %.

Conclusions: Dermatologic diseases are frequent in endocrine diseases.
