Introduction: The dermatoneurological examination is a vitally important weapon for early diagnosis of leprosy.
Objectives: To demonstrate the importance of using a teaching material about the dermatoneurological examination for fifth-year medical students who are taking the Dermatology subject, and thereby increase and improve the quality of their learning.
Methods: An educative intervention was carried out with fifth-year medical students, using the Dermatin 1.0 software as a complementary method for providing instruction about the dermatoneurological examination during their Dermatology rotation, at Dr. Juan Bruno Zayas Alfonso General Teaching Hospital (Santiago de Cuba), in the period from September 2018 to October 2019.
Results: Female students predominated in the study. 93.6% of the students achieved very good results in the final practical exam.
Conclusions: As a result of the application of the Dermatin 1.0 software for the teaching of the dermatoneurological examination, excellent results were obtained, and greater motivation of the students was observed to deepen their knowledge about this stigmatizing disease.
