Abstract

Introduction: The visible signs of skin aging are essentially represented by the appearance of wrinkles, which are depressions in the skin's surface that interrupt the uniformity.

Objective: To determine the locations and amounts of facial wrinkles in men and women.

Methods: A descriptive, observational study was carried out in 60 people, thirty men and thirty women with ages between 40-49 years. The description of the wrinkles was made by somatoscopy. In the cases presenting wrinkles all over the face, they were interviewed about the factors that influence facial aging.

Results: The entire sample had wrinkles under the eyelids. Men had greater number of wrinkles on the forehead, between the eyebrows and the neck and women surpassed them in the so-called chicken feet. Nine men have wrinkles all over their faces compared to only four women. On the other hand, 25% of women with wrinkles all over their faces use makeup sporadically and 50% every day.

Conclusions: All the patients had wrinkles under their eyelids, and there was higher frequency of men with wrinkles all over the face. Among the factors that influence facial aging, in women the daily consumption of less than 1.5 liters of water predominated, followed by oily skin, while in men, it was oily skin, followed by the daily consumption of less than 1.5 liters of water, and working with sun exposure.
