Sarcoidosis

Abstract

Sarcoidosis is a disorder that produces non-caseating granulomas in one or more organs and tissues and its etiology is unknown. The lungs and lymphatic system are the most affected, but it can manifest in any other organ.

We present a 73-year-old female patient, with a history of bronchial asthma and type II diabetes mellitus, who came for consultation because 5 years ago she began to present loss of muscle strength, tremors of intention and easy tiredness. The patient primary diagnosis was a primary myopathy and treated with vitamin therapy. For the last 3 years she has had skin lesions interpreted as a diabetic dermopathy. A year ago these lesions increased on the left leg and appeared on the right leg, back, arms and face, and also hypoacusis was observed. A skin biopsy was performed resulting in a sarcoidosis diagnosis. The case is presented due to the rarity of this disease in our environment and the importance of accurate diagnosis.
