Epidemiological Characterization of Cutaneous Tumors Treated in the Surgical Unit of the “XX Anniversary” Polyclinic in Santa Clara Municipality

Introduction: Skin tumors are frequent in our environment, and they need timely diagnosis and treatment to avoid complications.
Objetive: To determine the clinical and epidemiological characteristics of cutaneous tumors and the pathological clinical correlation of the patients operated.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional and retrospective study was developed in the period from March 2018 to March 2020. The study population consisted of the total number of patients treated in the surgical unit of “XX Anniversary” Polyclinic in Santa Clara city, Villa Clara province. The sample consisted of 394 patients presenting skin tumors.
Results: The most frequent tumors were benign, with a total of 244, and the most common were nevi (36.5%). Malignancies totalled 158, representing 40.1% of the total number of patients operated on and the most common was basal cell carcinoma. The age group over 50 years (69%) and white skin color (78.9%) predominated. A pathological clinical correlation was observed in 68.3%.
