Cutaneous Manifestationns in Patients with Diabetes Mellitus

Introduction: Diabetes mellitus is an endocrinological disease, its skin maniestations are frequently seen in dermatological practice. Sometimes the most prominent and initial manifestarion of the patient is related to skin changes.
Objective: To identify the most frequent skin manifestations in patients diagnosed with diabetes mellitus.
Methods: A descriptive, cross-sectional study was carried out at Miguel Enríquez Clinical-Surgical University Hospital, from January 2019 to April 2021. The sample consisted of 70 patients, according to the researcher´s non probabilistic selection criteria. The information collected was summarized in tables through own statistical data for qualitative variables that were expressed in absolute numbers and percentages.
Results: The age group between 60 and 69 years of age predominated, and 66% embolied the female sex. 45.72% were between 6 and 10 years old and diagnosed with daibetes. 61.9% had skin manifestations of infectious origin and 88.57% were unaware that their dermatological disease had to some extent association with the underlying disease.
Conclusions: Most of the patients did not have control of their underlying disease at the time of visiting the Dermatology consultation. In more than half of the cases, cutaneous manifestations of infectious origin predominated, and within these, fungal infections.
