Abstract

Introduction: Psychodermatology includes any aspect of dermatology where psychological factors may play a significant role in the origin or development of the disease. This category includes a group of dermatoses whose primary cause is an emotional disorder.

Objective: To provide an update on psychosomatic dermatoses, their clinical manifestations and pathophysiology.

Methods: A literature review of the articles available was carried out in SciELO, PubMed, Google Scholar, Medigraphic and Medline on psychosomatic dermatoses. A total of 45 scientific papers by national and international authors were reviewed, of which 13 were referenced.

Conclusions: There are more and more articles that confirm the relationship between mind and skin. Something that must be taken into consideration when treating these dermatoses is making an exhaustive interrogation, explaining to the patients the characteristics of their disease, and the response they should expect from the various treatments.
