Behavior of pediatric patients with skin and soft tissue infections
Abstract
Introduction: Pyodermitis are characterized by being a localized soft tissue
infection, which develops as a result of the entry of bacteria through an altered
skin barrier.
Objective: To characterize the clinical and epidemiological behavior of pediatric
patients with Pyodermitis.
Methods: A descriptive, observational study was carried out in the dermatology
services of the Hospital Pediátrico Docente Juan Manuel Márquez and Hospital
Pediátrico Docente San Miguel del Padrón, during the period from January 2022
to January 2024. The first 350 patients who met the established inclusion criteria
were taken as a simple. The variables included in the study were age, sex,
predisposing factors, associated dermatoses, type of Pyodermitis, location of
lesions, results of bacteriological examination, treatment and response to
treatment.
Results: Patients in the 5 - 9 years old age group predominated, accounting for
34.86% of the total, and males accounted for 177 cases. The most frequent
predisposing factor was pruritic dermatoses (68.29%). The most common type of Pyodermitis was furunculosis with 157 cases, and the location was in the
lower limbs. The most commonly used antibiotic was sulfamethoxazoletrimetropim
(43.43%). The response was favorable in 90.57%.
Conclusions: Pyodermitis in pediatric patients predominate in male. The most
common diagnoses are furunculosis and impétigo contagioso, and the most
common etiologic agent is Staphylococcus aureus. Treatment response is
favorable with the use of sulfamethoxazole-trimetoprime and second-generation
cephalosporins.
