Abstract

Skin epidermoid carcinoma is a malignant neoplasm affecting non-basal keratinocytes and showing a strong association with actinic damage. It frequently appears in photoexposed areas, as well as in mucosas and skin annexes, among them the ungual unit. A case is presented of a male 69-year-old patient without personal or family pathological antecedents of interest who attended Dermatology consultation with an ulcerated tumor lesion in the hyponychium of the first finger of his left hand. The patient had had this slightly painful, rapidly growing lesion for about six months. The importance of this case presentation lies in the rarity of epidermoid carcinoma of the ungual bed, a fact that often leads to delays in its diagnosis, for doctors will first consider more frequent conditions of similar expression, which may have a negative impact on the prognosis.
